I went to a sale near me today (Llandeilo) and despite saying that I was just going to have a look I managed to come home with 2 speckled sussex hens and one cockerel :o Could have been worse though - I had my eye on a trio of white pekins and some quails too! Will get some pics tomorrow if it isn't rainig too heavily.

Oh yeah please do put some pics up, :D never seen a speckled sussex! :o I would love to try getting some more but i need to keep stopping myself! Only had my girls for just over a week and i am addicted.

Kim

Hi Kim, I'm afraid the addiction gets worse the longer you keep them  There are a few pics of my original speckled girls in the photo section. When I saw a matching cockerel and some more hens I couldn't resist completing that particular flock!

Well they are all beautiful, i had a look at all the photographs you have posted..., could be quite jealous! ;) You have the space all made up for them all, it looks great. I've put a pic of my coop and tiny run (compared to what you have!) on a post when i first cam on asking if it was big enough. first timers having the girls and it started off that they were for my 6year old daughter and myself for pets. O/h works away and said tonight how looking forward to getting home and seeing the girls in action, they are all i seem to talk about on the phone now! To the point o/h is talking about us getting ducks or more chickens! Don't know a thing about ducks and wouldn't know what breed to go for if we got more choux :? Sorry this is turning into a bit of a book

Apparently ducks absolutely wreck your garden. Know what you mean about becoming addicted though, I'm on holiday at the moment and really miss my girls and still coming on the forum. Worried about them and if the woman looking after them is doing a good job! :? At the same time I see the farm we are on have some chicks coming up and I'm wondering....... :D

I keep quite a few ducks and I let them out into the garden rather than the chooks as they do little damage and mop up the slugs...

As long as there is not water and mud close to one another that is

The ducks don't scratch the ground like the chooks and are mainly interested in looking around for things to eat than invading the vegetabe garden. The chooks will scratch mud onto all the paths and head straight to my veggie patch.

That's good to know Tim, I'm only going on what a couple of people have told me, all of whom don't keep duck OR chickens! Think my neighbours would seriously object to ducks though. :(
