Hello all, yesterday morning i fed and let my geese, ducks and chickens out- one of my old geese has two , day old goslings- i also let her out into the orchard with the babies. Went into the house about 10.30 am- just got in and heard the geese making a racket- ran to the gate to find all the geese/ducks at the gate with the two gosilings but no mum :( :( Searched the field and found her alive in the ditch- but bloody and in shock- a fox attack   Picked her up and put her in her house with her babies- she died in my arms this morning- the two babies are now with an "aunt" who was broody also. Makes me feel like giving them all up- i have spent all of yesterday and today electrifying my land- all 2 acres of it- not all done yet but will be soon. I dont mind them coming at night but not during the day- i cant keep the geese in -
just thought i would share my sorrow and anger with you all- god help the fox if i get him- and i will because he will be back  She was my best bird and a great mum- very unusual for gtoulouse who normally squash the goslings- always happens to your best birds!
regards, David

Awww so sorry to read this. My codelences. I hope the fencing keeps that fox away. Horrible creatures I feel lucky he hasn't had mine yet as we do see him regularly although have had two chicks taken by something :-(
it's a shame that the best always seem to be taken first.

Oh David, I am so very sorry, terribly sad post :( :(

Most of our chook area is now electrified and it really does work if thats any consolation. Not all of our land is though...just glanced up for some reason just after 8.30pm..to look straight in the eyes of a fox staring at the growers which weren't in the electrified area, that was pure luck I spotted her.

Oh I'm so sorry to read this David. It's heart breaking and I feel very sorry for you.

I hope your electric fence works well. I've recently done the same here on my whole enclosure and as Foxy says, once set up correctly, it should do the trick.

Tim

Hi David,
What an awful thing to happen, poor old girl, please don't give up keeping your beautiful geese, hopefully the electrified fence will keep them all safe, and give you some peace of mind.
Regards
Sue

Hi David

Very sorry to hear about that fox attack. We've had a similar incident with a fox walking in the drive and attacking at 2pm in the afternoon!

Its a good job you were on hand or it could have been a lot worse. Like you said its always your best bird!!

hi
sorry to hear david

my uncle had this problem but with his hens
however he got some guinea fowl. very noisy and since then he has only had 1 fox in the past 6 months i think.
they do have some disadvantages though..they roost in trees or bushes and sometimes garden shed roofs but they are noisy so can keep the foxes away
just a thought

i lost 3 chicks yesterday not to the fox but to ducks big clumsy feet but i think if id lost my top duck and hen id be so upset too

they are so lucky to have an aunt to take them

How terribly sad....I would be heartbroken, I am so sorry! :( All the very best of luck for her babies with their new auntie!

Sorry to hear of your bad news. I just wished I lived a bit closer because I have just the thing to stop that troublesome fox..........it's only a very small thing, but it travels at over 2000 feet per second with deadly accuracy !..........I think you get the picture !! :D
