Hi just been down and checked my duck's to find that one of the female runners is blind in one eye.

Got hold of her which was very easy compared to normal and it looks very sore and in a word gunked up..

She is blinking alot and she is hidding in her hut away from the others as you would expect a poorly duck would.

Do not Known what is the best way to handle this is, dont want her to be in pain or stressed

Will get a picture tomorrow if needed but any help would be great

Thanks Matthew

hi - if she is easy to get hold of, if it was me, i would try and bathe the eye very gently with salt water (teaspoon of salt to a pint of tepid water) and cotton wool pad if possible. If the gunk is cleaned off, you may be able to see if there is any damage, or if it is just gunky because she has got some dirt etc in it and possibly an infection. I would then decide on a course of action depending on what i found? I hope she's ok.

Someone recently treated a gunky eye with drops from the chemist. Had to say they were for his wife or something at the second chemist as the first refused to let him have them for a chicken. Can't remember the brand but a search should find it.

The stuff you get from the chemist is golden eye.
But I would suggest you get this girl to a vet as soon as possible if you can?

Thanks for all your comments, think the vet is best plan and I do not want to make my girl any worse.

I agree with Dorsetduckowner and it would be best to get her to a vet, she may need antibiotics for that eye. In the meantime you can bathe the eye in tepid slightly salty water to cleanse. If you can remove her and place in a shed or a small run with fresh water so she can bathe it would help, it would also give her some peace and quiet.

Do you have an active drake? Sometimes an over enthusiastic drake can cause damage.

Thank you all for your posts

It all cleared up and she is looking great again

Thanks Matt

Well its funny really now

I rang the vet to ask them and with doing so booked her in.
The next day got up, went down to pick her up and she looked fine.
I did think I had the wrong duck too, and had to check the others - I felt like I was going mad a that point.
She look so bad I tho, how could it just go in a space of a night but it had.
As it looked so bad the day before I still took her down there...

I felt like one of those mothers that is always pestering the doctors about a kid that is very healthy.
They had a good look and looked at me in a funny way to but she was fine...

I dont Known what it was but ' It did look bad the day before, I swar' said that at the vets too

The stress hay, you would not believe from a few ducks- must be going mad
thank Matt
