Runner ducks and chickens

Hi Everyone.
I've just aquired 3 Indian Runner ducklings 2.5 weeks old. I have one batch of chicks 5 weeks old: 2 new Hampshires, 1 Silkie, I Poland. The other batch are 8 weeks old:3 bantam Orps. My question is-would the ducklings mix with either of these flocks, or is it a no-no?

Hi, it's best to keep them separate if you can- the ducklings can be a bit lively - they can run the chicks over and they really need different feeds- duck crumbs and chick crumbs- the poland will not see them coming so is even more at risk once it's crest grows- just my thoughts, i wouldn't do it but some people do with no problems.

I wouldn't either. To add to what David has said, the ducklings will need water to dabble in and will soon create the 'swimming pool' effect! Chicks really need it to be warm and dry and will soon get wet through.
