My 18 month old cock has developed a black round spot on his comb about 1cm diameter. He seems very well, but I'm wondering what this could be?

Black and I would guess at blood blister Chickenfan, either resulting from a peck or injury whilst in bushes or on chicken wire. I think a sting is unlikely this time of year. Have you inspected it closely?

Just an observation, but may be connected.
I've been keeping my girls in for several days so they don't eat anything other than worming mixture. Last week they had various black splodges on comb tips and sides but all that has gone now. I had, previously, noted that when they have yoghurt and splash it all over then dark spots and marks seem to develop the next day.
I wonder if it's just a temporary reaction to mud, water (yogurt) etc? Sometimes at least.

Just to be clear, I'm describing a black mark like a stain, not a 'spot', leasion or blister etc.

We had a similar problem years ago Rick. The chickens ate cherries and their combs and wattles turned black. I rang the vet in a panic because the internet research said 'blackhead'. I then tried cleaning them up for vet inspection and the stuff washed off- it was soot from the soil stuck to cherry juice. So I had to ring them back and cancel the appointment because I had 'cured' it! I did explain how.

Ah yes - sticky stuff collecting the muck! I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if there is something resinous, or the like, out the back of the coop that they have been brushing their combs against.

Thank you Chris and Rick. Weather has been horrendous today, but I will inspect Lord Byron's spot again more carefully .
