My RIR eggs of which 11 are fertile, are hopefully cooking away nicely.
I want a couple more good egg layers to add to my flock who lay brown eggs. Have green, blue, cream and white eggs, but I do miss the brown ones, my Croads lay one brown egg, and one cream.
I'm hoping that the RIR girl chicks will have a faint bar on their heads, does anyone know if this is so?, opinion seems a bit mixed on this. I will be sad to raise more gorgeous Big Rubes and then have to dispose of them, anyone on here keep RIRs?

That is supposed to be the case Val but it's not meant to be wholly accurate a bit like the eyeliner test on welsummers, with them I never thought it was worth the risk of being wrong. The only way to be sure would be to vent sex them.

May have found a way to tell that someone told me of a while ago, and I've just heard of it again, now to see if there is any vestige of truth in it.

What sort of sucker am I for old wives tales?.

Tiny baby girls grow little "tails" first, while little boys have - that word again - rounded bums whilst very young.
In anticipation of this, and a successful hatch, I have ordered 10 baby pink leg rings, and 10 baby blue, 8cm; also I have Croad Langshan eggs winging their way to me on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - hurrah!
