Hi,

Totally new to this.Getting my chicken house next week should I be treating the house as a precaution with poultry sheild ,it's a new house but not getting the chickens till a week later.
I have also heard that some people use pest killers for their chicken huts to clear of red mite containing a permethrin base would this be ok to use ?

Hi TraceyD

I have moved your post from Chickens Health FAQ (which is moderated and needs approval to appear) to the Chickens Heath Forum.

Hello, you can use poultry shield- but it will not have red mite if it's new- so no need to treat it - you can, if you wish, try and find some creosote( its very hard to find now) - give it a good coat inside and out- as you are not getting the chickens until a week later it will dry out and be fume free in time- this will protect it for longer. Don't worry if you cant- as long as you check regularly for red mite ( under perches and in crevices) and give it a good wash out or spray with poultry shield once a month and there should be no problems. Good luck with your new chickens :)
regards, David :)
