I bought one (can't remember which brand) last year, an despite trying for a couple of months never caught anything. So had to go back to poison which I would prefer not too.

I wondered if I had bought a strong enough one, but interested in everyone elses experiences

I used one a couple years ago, the only thing it zapped was my finger when I stuck it inside to see if there was debris....

If it's that tunnel shaped device then don't bother , never caught a thing , now gathering dust in the shed.

I bought one a few years back. :-)05

I found that a fresh set of batteries would soon not have sufficient energy to kill the rat which resulted in it triggering but not killing. I saw a rat go into it and run backwards out of it much to my upset!

I asked whether I could buy a power supply for it and the answer was no, not for the UK.

So... I made my own little modification to it = I connected 6V DC up to the wires that went to the (6 volt) battery pack.

I then caught 9 rats in a row but they were all youngsters. It took a week before they went in there and the older rats were too smart and wouldn't go into it. I had to use the airgun for them.

The next year I found it had got soiled with food and I stripped it down to clean the electrified plate but however much I cleaned it, it would arc and trigger. I eventually gave up with it after a few hours trying to get it not to trigger... :-)11 and then it went in the bin.

I would say the big problem is it drains the batteries too quickly (putting my electronics hat on there will always be some leakage of high voltage to ground which I guess does this) and the gap between charged metal plate and earth plate should be air, not plastic as there always seems to be some slight muck / grease that causes it to arc and trigger - especially when you are having to put bait inside the end like tuna or cat food etc. which even on a plastic lid soon gets spilt by the electrified rat!

Finally, I think it should be water resistant so you could put it outside in better locations.

Hope this helps...

I use one in my workshop where i keep my feed, haven't seen any rats by it works well for zapping mice
