Can anyone give me suggestions on how to deal with a rat problem in and around the coop..Thanks

hi you can get a bait box and hide it ethier around the outside of the run or well hiden within the run where the birds cant get to it , i had a rat prob a few summers ago and i saw the rat a few times so against my wishes { cant kill anything } and with mum driving me up the wall over it i got a bait box and hid it under a load of pallets where the girls cant get to an although i have never checked it i havent had a rat prob since during the past summer i took down one of my houses to re use as a hay shed at the stables and there was no evidence of rats being under it just one hek pf a lot of spiders :o :o .

but you do have to be very carefull with other pets while using these like cats or dogs etc .

sadly, thats one of the down sides of keeping hens & livestock.
we have 4 cats & still get rats...

poison is the way to go IF you can keep it away from all other animals (pets and wildlife)

good luck :)

I have had a few rats in whilst the weather is cold they have become alot more active. I use the blue bait blocks (neosorexa?) they have a hole in the bait blocks which I put wire through and attach in the middle of a drain pipe, the rats eat it but can not drag it away.
The old saying is very tru "where you have feathers you get fur"
