I have purchased a used unit that I have started for the first time. I would like to set eggs tomorrow but the humidity reading will not rise any higher than 42% even if I set it for 70%. Sponge is in place, water reservoir is full, and fans seem to be running. Very dry climate here, but seems the machine should be able to compensate. How long should it take to get to the right humidity setting after I lift the lid? The heater catches back up in minutes.

Please advise.

Hello, the old sponge ones are not the best to try and keep the humidity up- the newer models are much better. -try putting a little water in the base as well- the humidity will take ages to rise - you must keep the lid on as much as possible. 42% is fine until they pip so the weather might be cooler and humidity higher by then, good luck,
regards, David :)

Hi
I had same problem so I was told to clean the two humidity rods ( preferably by removing them ) with emery cloth and also check that the two corresponding plungers that connect to the top of the rods are working freely and making a good contact. It has just worked for me, so best of luck.
