hi.
have been reading posts on worming and noticed some of you recomend Ivermectin. I have used this on small aviary birds but it costs a small fortune. I'm guessing its sold in larger quantities for chooks and am hoping some one will be able to tell me where to get it from and what strengh I would need ?

I used the 0.8% one suitable for guinea pigs, rabbits and pigeons?! I read it somewhere that it does a good job on chickens but it isn't actually licenced for use with poultry- they do however use it on sheep and cows which enter the food chain (although obviously in larger doses)
A 30ml bottle cost me around £25 but did all my chickens and I still have about half a bottle left- The instructions give you the number of drops to use on different sized/ weight animals so I used that to dose my birds.
I'm not a vet so please don't take what I've said as fact- just letting you know what worked for me :)

Ivermectin is stocked by vets as they use it for sheep, cows etc and usually prescibed if your birds need worming. It does not kill all worm types - flubenvet does (with the exception of tape worm which requires a stronger dose) and is licenced for use with chickens at the standard dose rate without egg withdrawal.

Many waterfowl enthusiasts use Ivermectin because it is easier to administer to waterfowl and there is no 'licenced' wormer for ducks.

Personally, I would buy a 240g tub of Flubenvet (if you have lots of birds) or a sachet that treats 20 or so birds.

Flubenvet on Amazon might be useful.

Ivermectin does kill external parasites (lice, mites) so some like to use it for that and get some worms in the process. :D
