After years of nagging to have chickens i finally moved into my own place but came to a conclusion my garden is fairly small and wouldnt be fair on them.
Recently quails popped into my head so im doing everything i can to findout about them.
I have a smallish garden and a labrador so dont have the space for chickens really and hadnt thought about it for months then quails came to mind. They are similar to chickens but smaller, i have always adored them when i see them in the pet stores although was told by the staff they are flightless have found out they do infact fly quite well.
My dog is not any concern, i have 2 bunnies and he doesnt bother them what so ever, when they are out he will go out and lay on the grass and sniff them, they sit between his paws to be cleaned. If anything they bully him. If he doesnt give them attention they chase him round the garden.
I have been looking at quail hatching eggs on ebay and a majority come in 1 dozen, I obviously want to buy enough eggs to make sure i dont just have 1 or 2 eggs hatch but i also am not aure of how much space 'potentially' 12 quails would need.
I have drawn some plans for my grandad and uncle (carpenters) they said they can give it a go but they need measurements lol so thats what im here to find out.
Also i have read in many places you cant keep them on the floor, i had a nice part of the garden ready for them, newly laid grass seed and was going to put a cat litter tray dug into the ground for sand baths (i heard they enjoy them)
Marni, sorry for spelling mistakes this ipad is useless lol, also noticed this is in the wrong section (i did click the right section but this thing is tempermental) can someone move it please
