Hi all,
not been on board for a while, sadly we have had a family bereavement and its true, they do come in
three`s, however spring is on its way and hopefully things will get better.

I have a quail that has had a runny eye for some time I have been bathing it but it seems to be tiny bubbles which cover the eye completely and then it may be clear for a day. Today I bathed the eye but I thought I could hear a bit of a ruckle in her throat, tonight she seems to have a wet beard, I have brought her in and she is very vocal (obviously wants to be with her mates).

Any ideas? she is very well other than this.

kind regards Heather

Hi Heather,
I had a hen with exactly the same problem, I think we ended up taking her to the vets, and she was given antibiotics. I bought some Splash-orpingtons hens a few weeks ago and one of them has the same symptons, so another trip to the vets I guess.

kind regards, Sarah

Hi all,

the quail with the frothy eye has been to the vets and is six days into treatment, apparently this is a symptom of respiratory disease, she has cream for the eye and baytril, sadly she is not improving and I now have two more each keeping one eye closed, this is how the first one started, looks like another visit to the vets.
Will keep you posted.

Heather

sorry your quail isnt improving. Its probably worth asking your vet for Tylan soluble for the respiratory infection as the baytril isnt having effect. My vet only stocks baytril but will order in for me. :-)17

Hi,

the three quail are now on denagard for 5 days, off 5 days and on for 5 days, then another 7 days before I can collect the eggs so I hope it works and they get better.

will keep you posted.

Heather
