Tim,we haven't got a piccy section for this forum  :( .
Anyway, here's a few pics of some of my Chinese painted Quail.

Dear little souls Lydia - how many do you have? I had quails up to last summer and am going to get them again when I can give them an aviary type structure with indoor space too as I don't think they are winter-hardy are they? How long do you they live - I had mine for only about 18 months but I don't know how old they were when I got them.I read they only live for about 2 yrs - that's no good - I get too fond of them

Has anyone had the bobwhite type?

The chinese painted quail life expectancy is only 18 months to 2 years  .
If you do ever want some,I've got silver's,white's,pied/mottled(can't remember the proper name)and asian red breast. You can always have some of me or some fertile eggs.
Quail eggs do better in a dry incubator, than one with water for humidity.
It seems that is what I did wrong with my first batch of fertile eggs.

Well soon I think I'm going to be over run with them :D .At the moment I've got a trio of each colour, and,at the moment they are all sharing the same cage, but,I'm getting another set of trio's of each colour, and,I'm going to swap the cock birds over,to introduce new blood, then I will segregate them into colour groups.
I put them all together initially because some of the hens were getting too much attention from the cock birds. Not just ruffled/pecked head feathers but bald backs as well.
You're more than welcome to some if you'd like them.

How many eggs to the chinese painted quails lay? And is it right that they have to be brought inside for the winter?

We can always add new areas to the forum as it grows Lydia - it's not difficult to do. I think the real concern was not to have loads of different areas initially with nothing in them which is why there are limited forums and sub forums. Snifter was a star at helping me sort this out.

The quail look gorgeous and it's making me think whether I could fit a few in! ;)

easily, they are so small, and very cute. They taste good wrapped in bacon and roasted as well :D .

Lydia

Here are the quails we got from you in thier new home, they are laying well now and I am sure the eggs must be fertile due to the amount of activity. We are so glad that we increased the ratio of hens to cocks, otherwise our hens would be sooo tired. Harvey is very chuffed that his quail has laid an egg.
