Hi everyone,

Just wanted to pick your brains about security 1. Against theives, 2. against foxes.

1. Some time ago on the forum, someone mentioned a sensor which could be attached to chicken runs or houses and would alert a moblie phone once activated by an intruder. If anyone knows of such a product could you let me have details?

2. I've seen a fox deterrent (in the argos catalougue!) which can be placed in a poultry pen, garden or whatever. The electronic device emits a sound which cannot be heard by humans but dogs, cats and foxes hate it and won't go near it. Has anyone tried one of these? Is it worth the £ 30 ?
I was thinking of using this in addition to 6ft + fencing with two strands of mains electic fence. lower strand approx 18 ins from ground and upper strand at top of fence . (Not sure how I'm going to get in though!)

Grateful for any help/opinions :D

cannot really help except to say, my MIL uses a mole deterrent like the noise emitting thingy cos she loves her lawn and it works

Hi
Fox deterents do not work, they are a little like the ones for mice that plug in (they also dont seem to work).
With regards to squad beams, you can have them set around the perimeter of your land or around the hen enclosure, personally I have mine around the perimeter, it gives you time to get down the garden to see what is going on.
My quads are linked to the security cameras, monitors, lights and sensors. You can set them to go off for any size i.e. bigger than a cat etc... when the beam is broken it sends an alarm to the house and to the mobile. The security lights also come on, and I have 6 security cameras down there which are recorded onto a hard drive in the house 24 hours a day.
I had to instal these after November 08 when someone came in and stole over 32 ornamental ducks. I admit it was alot of expense but it took me months to actually enjoy going back down the garden knowing some intruder had been in and taken some of my "babies". You can have other quad beams and security measures instead.
If you need any help or advice my mobile os 07704 321104

Regards Sue

My mum has one of the fox, dog and cat scarer things - she says it has stopped the cats messing on her garden but I can't stand it as the children (and me!) can hear it and it's really annoying- like one of those Mosquito teenager repellents Arggghh And I'm 31

Hi there,

Thanks for that . The laser sensor, camera thing sounds good. This would be to 'keep and eye' on some birds on our farmland which is 1/4 mile away from home.
