Hi all,
Just wondering how you all get on with eggs which have been posted to you? I've had quite a few posted to me - fertility has sometimes been very good but probably only works out around 60 % over all and the hatch rates are never over 50% and often lower.

I have sold and posted some of my own mixed pekin eggs (next day special delivery) and so far it has been reported that fertility is 100% and the first person to have some sent has just reported a 5/6 hatch.
Does posting affect eggs as much as some say or do sellers use postage as an excuse for poor fertility/ hatch? Or have the people who bought eggs off me so far been especially lucky? Just wondering what other sellers/ buyers have experienced.

Hi, eggs are either fertile or not- posting can sometimes damage the air sacs- but it cannot affect fertility- some eggs with damaged air sacs do hatch but fertility happens before Royal mail gets them! :) Most people would say 60-80% hatch rate is normal- even on none posted eggs.
I buy a few eggs from E-bay and they vary- i have had 100% hatches and nil hatches- it's best to check their feedback first to see how fertility is, hope this helps, regards, David :)

with eggs I've bought,I've had higher infertile/clear at 7 days, than ones that have started developing normally. i've also had ones where the air sack is moving about inside the egg. These have never developed.

I've also noticed, that if I get 6 where they are fertile,it will be all the eggs,or at least 5.Then the other side, not 1 fertile egg out of 6,which has been most eggs I've bought.

That's what I thought- People should check the fertility of their eggs a bit more and blame the postie less!

i think there are some unscrupulous people about is all i will say
Couldn't agree more - Can't really see the point myself- you wont get repeat custom and people do talk- trouble with auction sites is that the buyers are meant to leave feedback based on delivery rather than fertility- mind you as VP was saying on another thread buyers can be pretty unscrupulous too

That's what I've experienced too- which is why I have a feeling that some people knowingly send out old eggs or ones that they haven't recently tested- I've enjoyed hearing back from people who've bought from me as it saves me continually checking the fertility myself! If you ever want a mixed bunch to try just PM me- :D

I've got 3 lots of pekin eggs on the go at the moment all from different sellers on ebay. bought 6 and only 1 fertile got 12 from another seller and about half fertile, and got 9 frizzle pekins from yet another seller and all 9 are fertile. I do personally think it has more to do with the eggs sold rather than the post.
