Postcards

Mrs Yetiman here, whilst going through some photos of my late mothers I came across some 1930's postcards of Lynton and Lynmouth, North Wales ( I have offered these to Margaid 1st) and 1947 ones of Isle of Wight. I wondered if there were any postcard collectors out there or local history people who would like them. Some say on the reverse a genuine bromide photograph, a term I have not come across before. Just PM us and happy to post them on at some point.

Ah - many childhood holidays at Lynton and Lynmouth. I rember my parents alluding to some disaster there but I was too young to take it in.

Just googled it. Don't know how such an epic event had passed my by. Presumably my history teachers were more interested in the Tudors than anything of importance!

I was on holiday in North Devon, nearby, at the time (Early 1950s) and remember everyone being shocked at the floods. Lynton and Lynmouth are in Exmoor, in North Devon not North Wales, and we walked down from Watersmeet on our holiday last summer. There's still a museum at Lynmouth which shows the history of the flooding.

Apologies for my typing I meant to put that Lynton & Lynmouth were North Devon, I remember mum talking about the floods.
I also came across a photo my dad took of the 1953 floods, he worked at Thames board Mills at the time at Purfleet on the banks of the Thames and the whole factory was flooded, luckily there was no night shift at the time, but dad lost all his tools. Fortunately the properties along that area were all houses, and everyone was upstairs asleep and there was no loss of life unlike Canvey island which suffered loss of life.
Friends of my mothers that lived near the factory were rescued by boat via bedroom window and said that the mud smell never left the house for years
