Hi, I have hatched some runner ducks and all were fine that hatched except one that hatched with his eyes closed and weepy, he wasnt getting enough food so I seperated him and we have been making sure he eats and drinks and I have been cleaning his eyes for him with cool boiled water, now his eyes have opened but they are bulbus and grey and do not seam to move, i am wondering whether he is blind, he is also much much smaller than the others, is there anything else i could do to help him and do you think he can see, also does anyone know why this has happened.

Thank you in advance for any advice, he is two weeks old and both his eyes are the same, will he be able to manage when he is older to find food etc if he is blind, I'm not sure how to put photos on this site but do have some, will try to work it out.

Thanks again. :)

Hi Buttons and welcome to the Forum.
I don't know how to help with your duckling's problem, but there are two threads about posting pictures on here, in the Chickens subforum Pictures of Chickens see http://poultrykeeperforum.com/viewforum.php?f=27 I expect someone else will come along with advice, especially if you can manage to post a pic.

Hiya, welcome to the forum.
You poor thing this must be quite distressing for you.
These developmental problem occur for many reasons and most don't survive this far, so well done for getting this baby to this age.
I can only suggest that a veterinary opthalmologist takes a look at him and gives you a prognosis.
I have seen ducks blind in one eye that do ok, but I think complete blindness would be a very hard disability for any duck to cope with.
Good luck and keep us posted
