My little hen Sookie is a little off at the moment. She's standing by herself, or just sits by herself. She's shaking her head a lot. Her crop is full and her comb looks a good colour. She has a bit of a slow eye blink, which my mother used to say was the 'death look' :( she's not as easy to approach as the others, but today she's being very easy to pet.

Am pretty worried. Not sure what this can be. I keep pet rats so have baytril to hand. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

She also has very dark green droppings that have a consistency, but also like green water

Green droppings say infection Monkfish. Is her crop still full in the morning? I'm thinking abdominal infection with swelling obstruction of the digestive system so her rear end underbelly will feel firm rather than flabby. Shaking her head could be ear lice though and you will need a strong light and magnifying glass to check -and 3 hands!

I've just realised this is another post that has 'slipped into the ether' for days. Posted June 18th and appeared June 21st.

I've just been grouting tiles so my mind has been wandering -as it does! Could be ear lice which have caused an ear infection Monkfish, if she is eating and pooing otherwise fairly normally.

She died the next day. Was very upset. Called the vet out to look at our set up and to check to other birds out. Everyone else was ok. No answers I'm afraid. Treating them all with wormer and coxiod. Just to cover eveything. Thanks for all you help guys

This is probably linked to your other hen who is off her feet I am afraid, at this stage I would suspect Mareks disease, due to the symptoms described, although this would need a veterinary diagnosis to confirm.
