we have a white star hen who seems a bit poorly i found her puffed up then she tried to pass something but clear discharge came out , she is eating and drinking still but has stopped laying . She seemed a bit brighter the next day but passed a white discharge , she had a swollen foot so she had baytril could this be the cause ? [ she has been wormed and vaccinated]
Many thanks
Linda

Hi Linda,

The swollen foot - is this the bottom of her foot - the pad? If so, it could be Bumblefoot. I guess you have seen a vet for this if you have the antibiotic Baytril. This should not cause the symptoms you are seeing though.

It's very hard to say what is wrong with her if she is wormed. It sounds serious and my guess is whatever it is, (I'm very sorry to say) she probably won't recover from it. It sounds like an internal problem. You could get some tests done at the vets but I guess she may only last 24 - 48 hours in this state.

I'm sorry, I can't think of anything that will help... it is probably kinder to put her to sleep if she has made no improvement by the morning.

Tim
