i poo pick the whole run every afternoon just before the girls go to bed and i use a wall paper scrapper or a trowel depending on how wet the ground is and i just scape or pick up into a large plastic dustpan but they dont last very long so i went to the garden centre this afternoon to get a snow shovel as i figured they would be light weight to carry around as i have arthritis setting in my wrists due to busting them years ago so holding anyhting heavy becomes painfull even after 5 mins but the woman at the shop said what about one of these and she gave me a fold away car snow shovel guys they are worth getting they are very light weight and ideal for the job and the shovel part holds quite a bit of poo but even better though is you can use the shoevl end for cleaning out the houses as well so its got to jobs :D pleased i got it now no more buying stupid dustpans . just another tip for keeping chickens

I use a rubber glove (the thicker, black variety) and a small trug. Problem is I have a very large supply of left handed black rubber gloves!! Being right handed and I only use the one glove. If there is anyone out there who is left handed and wants to share my supply they are very welcome!!!! I find this system works for me, but I only have 7 hens.

Bare fingers work best. As a plumber I am used to sticking my fingers in .... . Gloves are expensive. My wife uses disposable latex gloves which are non-handed. I do get caught out by the odd runny one hidden under the bedding though!

Oh dear Chris, you are brave! Either that or your hens must produce nice firm poos! I'm afraid mine vary from runny custard colour to milky white watery ones that stand no chance of being collected, to the nice round, firm ones. The trouble with the disposable ones are that they don't last long, at least the black, thicker ones last a couple of months at least.

i have always scrapped mine up even the wet ones they come up with some soil which is why i use the trowel but when cleaning the whole run theres no way i would be abe to go round hand picking them all up  i have industrail printing gloves for doing the houses with .
