Polish bantams

Following on from my previous posts and the advice given we are favouring the polish bantams, the reason for this is they seem, fun, pretty and friendly birds. Has anyone kept this breed and if so what are your thoughts?

Hi Craig,

I have kept Polish and as you say they are friendly and make lovely pets. They can be a bit skittish if they don't know you're there with their restrictived vision but I always made a point of talking to mine as I approached and they would come to me when they heard me speak. It is important that they have a large living area as they need to stay inside when it is raining or windy, they are not as hardy as some breeds. I think you'd definately enjoy keeping this breed!
 
iv 2 polish x silkies hens. both ctoo and latifa are friendly never try to escape and are quite happy to sit in my hand while i walk round the garden being fussed and far from skittish unlike the boy who might be polish x. i always look at them and want to hug them so pretty breed

as we have 4 girls who are gonna spoil them rotten lol.. The same goes for the talking to them as its never quiet in our house/garden lol.. Its looking like the polish could be the perfect chuck for us!! We had been thinking about japanease bantams, would you reccomend this breed? Or are they completley different temperment to the polish? Yeah the silkies do look so sweet n fluffy!! Id like ours to that at ease that they sit on our hands n be fused!!!

I've also got frizzle and smooth feathered chamois polish bantams, i agree with everything above, but I always keep polands with polands - I never put them with other breeds, because of their vision (or lack of it) and their heads are much more fragile than other poultry a knock accidently can cause them a lot of harm ot even kill them

stunning birds. mine quite hardy must be the silkie in them they love to get in the top of duck house to snuggle down and lay eggs. ctoo is always in the mud you cant tell shes white half the time
 
Polands are a lovely bird to own, friendly and not bad layers, mine love to perch on shoulders, hands etc but don;t like to be held. Best to keep them dry although one of my girls loves to be out in the rain!
 
I keep chamois polands like Dorinda's (nice birds by the way :D ) Would agree that they are fantastic little things, incredibly friendly and lovely with the kids- the only downside I can think of with them is that we find them a little noisier than other breeds - they are quite vocal and like chatting as they wander around the garden!

We've been breeding them for three years now and all of ours are chatterboxes :D - they are the noisiest chicks too - when we go to the incubator we can always tell if a poland has hatched by the crazy cheeping :lol:
