Hello

Please could you give me your opinion on my neighbours unwell chickens. I am concerned that what ever they have could affect my chickens.

So far she has lost a couple of her ex batts to similar symptoms. At first the hen seems to lose energy and become very dull. They stop eating or drinking. The first was vomiting yellow liquid when touched. Then their abdomen gets very hot and swells up. I have checked for them being egg bound but nothing. As the abdomen swell their breathing gets laboured. The last ones wings drooped towards the end.

The first one I thought may have peritonitis, the second was similar but she rang tonight to say several of her hens are now sneezing and sound like their breathing may be laboured. She also said that one of the geese kept with the chickens also sneezed.

Mine are in their run about 50m away from hers but I'm concerned.

Many Thanks in advance.

------the first 2 do sound like egg peritonitis , I think this is probably a common terminal event for them. The other symptoms sound like a respiratory infection. I think if hers are not going to be treated all you can really do is watch yours for any sign of it spreading to them and if it does get Vet advice ASAP .Ros

Don't forget to take cross infection precautions when going between flocks.

Thank you.

Shes seperating the hens from the geese today and going from there.

I was reading last night and the only thing I found that presents like peritonitis and can have respiratory symptoms was lyphoid leukosis? could it be this?
