Go to your user control panel, go to Profile at the top, then look down the left hand side menu for a link Edit Avatar. Click and it will tell you what to do to reduce your pic and upload it. k
I found it very tricky but I expect you will do it first time!

i tried that but it keeps telling me it is to large, what size do i type in the box for resizing. i knew i was going to find this tricky. 19

I think I remember I had the same problem and it was because my photo was too high definition to start with. When I reduced it as if for email and then used that file to work from and reduced that I think it worked. I know it was only my obstinacy, and a lot of help from Tim, that eventually got mine to work. I haven't touched it since, in case I lose it again.
