For weeks and weeks I have been trying to keep the girls away from my lavender. I thought hens were not supposed to like it? Well mine just LOVE digging it up. I tried putting wire mesh there - they dug it up, so I tried curry powder around it, it rained, so that was the end of that...until I found this attachment for the hose pipe with a sensor. Got it from Primrose and it is a fox/rabbit/cat deterrent. called Pest Bye. You can set the sensor as close as you wish. With 5 second blast of water when anything comes close, my hens have learned NOT to dig up my lavender with 24 hours! Best £20 spent this year.

Marigold, I can imagine dogs and children would have great fun with this. The hens are not amused, though ,(although I was, watching them). :lol: :lol:
 
That was quite amusing, wonder if it works on Jehovah's Witness or the Mormons at the door ?
Our hens have never shown the slightest interest in our Lavender or the Rosemary, but a friends hens love Rosemary, ours wisely leave the sage and onions alone too !!!

That made me laugh out loud. My husband laughed, too. You have given me an idea... Think I might even try it on Halloween night, when the kids come knocking for "trick or treat". I can then shout from the window that I chose "trick" and there won't be any treats. ??
 
Or you could hire me, I do a very scary child catcher at OH's nature reserve, and a nice line in scary clowns also.
One advantage to being down a country lane we don't get trick or treaters or Mormons
 
That works well Tweetypie. I discovered by accident the other day when I was clearing out the kitchen to paint that my plastic crow that I brought back from Amsterdam (they have them there in hardware shops to scare off the pigeons) does a good job too. I had let them out in the garden and wondered where they had all gone suddenly then realised that the crow was on the back door step. I think it would wear off though once Linden plucked up the courage to attack it.

Just seen this Rick. Think I might get a couple for the other flower bank ;-) as they have moved onto pastures new and destroyed a lot of my sedum. I guess they are just nosey birds looking to dig for worms, but the rockery is so dry, they are wasting their time. LOL.
