Has anyone known a peregrine take a bantam? Came out into the garden today to find a Peregrine Falcon sitting on the fence!
Nancy was stock still & her eyes were nearly popping out on their stalks
Highly amusing, but a bit worrying.

I've seen a sparrow hawk kil and eat a woodpigeon, in our garden, and then make a terrible mess plucking it in full view. And sparrow hawks are smaller than peregrines. But I think peregrines would kill from a stoop from a height, wouldn't they? Rather than from the top of a fence, to get some power behind the impact?

Had buzzards making attempts at my legbars too. I wouldn't put it past a peregrine, they love pigeons. Are batams a similar size? Never seen one in real life!

I must say, it's wonderful to see such amazing birds close up. We have a lot of Red Kites here in Hampshire and they cruise around over the house and garden, beautiful birds. I think they must be breeding locally and also we don't now see so many buzzards as we used to. I think maybe the kites are crowding them out.

We have a sparrowhawk who wizzes through the garden to take small birds regularly. He's never looked twice at the chooks though as we're surrounded by 6ft fencing & 10ft hedge/trees. They seem to swoop in for the kill on the wing, so not sure there's enough space for it to 'kill on the wing' if you get what I mean.
Not seen the peregrine before, a bit worrying really (mollteaser) as pekins are the same size as a pigeon, just a bit more teacozy shaped :)
