HI,

My absolute favorite pekin bantam, Mollie, (who has been broody now for 6wks or so), well her eyebrows have gone Grey/White...... How odd?

I know she is the wisest but this is taking it a little too far. She seems well in herself, certainly rouses herself for food/treats etc.......seems to be going through a partial moult too- I had no idea hens could turn grey. I hope its nothing more sinister??

I expect it is where she is starting to moult, they are probably light downy white feathers as opposed to grey, and stand out more as she is a black hen. She looks very healthy in her photo! :D

Thanks Foxy- I hope they do fall out, even my OH says she looks ridiculous.

She IS our healthiest hen, gets in on everything first, and with her heaving bosom, she keeps all our girls in their place. I love her character, absolutely nothing fazes her, and she talks so beautifully.
Think I've overdone the admiration bit now........

My cuckoo pekin, Mabel, also appears to be getting white eyebrows so I guess it's the time of year. ;) All three of my girls definitely appear to be moulting; they are looking quite straggely and we have feathers everywhere!

Mabel at last stopped being broody a few days ago but Flo and Phantom are still in the throes of it and show no signs of giving up. Flo's been broody the longest now - since 4th May! They only started laying on 29 March so only got eggs for 6 weeks!

Is that normal? Are they likely to come into lay again this year or wait until the spring again?

That might be it this year in terms of laying Ponygirl, probably be February before they delight you with their dainty eggs again! :D
