Hi, I am new to poultry keeping and have been offered what the seller describes as Crown Pekins. I have looked on the net and cannot find any information on this breed. The seller says they are rare? Has anyone heard of this breed, and are they worth buying he as three pullet for sale.

I have never heard of Crown Pekins, is that a particular colour?
I have kept pekins for a while and there are several non standard colours around but I've never heard of that one!!!

Sorry, havent heard of crown pekins either :-)19 is that the colour??? Perhaps Pebojuno may know as she keeps various colours of pekins.

No as far as I can tell I think it is to do with the comb which is split or double. The colour of the birds is black. It was just that I've read that Pekins only have a single comb and wondered if these were a breed of pekin or a defect. Not that it bothers me as such as long as they lay eggs and are healthy . Its just that when someone says rare you tend to find the price is more than if they are not.

Hello, they are not pure pekins- as you say, pekins should have a single comb- so don't be told otherwise and be careful what you pay for them :)
regards, David :)

Why does he feel the need to invent a name for them rather than just sell as Crossbred Pekins I wonder? That makes me suspicious? If it were me I'd leave them alone ,there are many true Pekins for sale at the moment., and crossbreds sold as such!------sorry, I just smell a rat! Ros

Hi,
i agree with podstable aswell, does this breeder sell alot of these ''crown pekins'' at a time because you could report him to the Pekin/poultry club of great britain for making up making up and classing these birds as ''rare''
Dan

Hi, I don't know if he sells a lot of them he was offering me just three hens at point of lay but I took podstable advise and didn't bother to buy them.
