Paper Mache Hen

Hi,

My 3yr old nephew was delighted with his Easter gift today. I made him this hen, moulded from one of my own pottery hens on a nest. He was more taken with the feathers inside than the chocolate! He called her "Big Nutmeg" after our Pekin girlie.

Guess its official- I am hen crazy!

That's lovely! My wife just said over my shoulder "we should be doing things like that for our children instead of you spending hours on that website at night.." :? Now I'm in trouble!
 
Thats awsome. you have a talent there I think well done. Although I fear you may of made more work for Tim. Maybe we will be seeing some photo's of your efforts soon tim? :lol:

Thank you for such kind comments. I really enjoyed making it, and now want one for myself. I tend to collect ceramic hens from charity shops and car boots as and when..... James, my nephew, kept covering "Big Nutmeg" up with the cellophane, to protect her. He had a wail of a time picking up the hens, yesterday, and even saw our sablepoot lay an egg, which I also managed to film......Why do they have to grow up??

Tim - you could get your children to make a paper mache egg -blow up a balloon, layer and paste with newspaper and diluted PVA glue.When dry, burst the balloon, you then have an egg mould, cut in half,
paint, decorate and fill......all good stuff over a rainy Easter Bank holiday.

That is really stunning,it's a lovely present for any time of year,especially at easter.We grow up as kids loving hens and chicks(well I did)so a paper mache hen is perfect.
So Tim,you making a hen or a cockerel?It must have set by now,have you painted it yet?Your one daughter might prefer a duckling though.She took such good care of your lonely duckling.
