Hello
I have two little Silkies hatched this spring, and I hear they are not 100% hardy. We are in a frost hollow and it will get very cold at night soon. Should they be given extra protection.e.g. in a shed at night, with heat? or will they be OK in the hutch? At the moment they are with 3 Orp banties and 2 New Hampshire hens, all half grown.
Thanks

Mine have always been ok mucking in with the others outside quite happily.Having said that, I have got new indoor pens in a barn and the mini/ bantam silkies will be the first to benefit when things get cold /wet this winter-------probably more for my benefit than theirs----can spend more time ,more easily with them!!My TINY miniature silkies were quite happy in a covered run with loads of bedding in their house last winter-----they are great 'huddlers'when it gets cold.Ros

I want to rent that barn :D
My silkies stay out in their pens during winter, they tend to spend more time in their house especially on wet / windy days
