Just to keep your spirits up Marigold.
The cameras are up and running at Glaslyn, having survived floods and 70mph winds. Some brave soul has been up the tree and cleaned out all the grass growing in the nest today.
Various other sites are testing their web cams, and 3 Ospreys crossed the Straits of Gibraltar on Sunday. Fingers crossed for all nest sites around the country
 
Decidedly damp here today.
From the guys in Gibraltar on 29 Feb, the first real day of big migration across the strait produced 2498 Black Kite, 320 Short toed Eagle, 20 Egyptian Vulture, 380 White Stork, 98 Black Stork, 7 Marsh Harrier, 4 Sparrowhawk and 11 House Martin.
On the 3rd March 4000 Black Kite crossed the strait, and an estimated 25000 roosted on the African side that night.
An Osprey today flew across a French raptor migration point.
Migration is truly amazing.
Oh is looking forward to warm days and scanning the skies and counting what goes over
 
You wouldn't want to be a housemartin amongst that lot! I wonder how many more got eaten by the birds of prey???
 
Luckily, most birds of prey seem to give hirundines a miss, as they are fast flying it takes a lot of energy to catch one. The exception being Hobbies who will hunt them in bad weather when dragonflies are scarce.
Luckily for these martins, Kites are mainly carrion eaters.
Osprey flew over garden about 10 mins ago, and one flew over Kelling in Norfolk at midday
 
OH went to Dalbeg beach yesterday

and saw quite a few terns, although he wasn't close enough to tell what kind. I expect the bonxies will be back soon, too.
 
That looks idyllic. Must revisit that part of the world soon
We saw a few Bonxies last week off the coast of Cornwall. North Westerly onshore wind and plenty of seabirds from Cape Cornwall. When large numbers of Gannets started feeding, the gulls moved in and the Bonxies and Arctic Skuas soon appeared to chase them about
 
A diversion from Corona Virus. Two ospreys arrived at Llyn Brenig early pm, then a regular breeding female not Maya returned to Rutland late pm
 
Great news! I know its been a bit windy but hopefully they are not being blown off course like last year (or whatever was happening.)
 
We had our 1st Blackcap back in the garden yesterday singing away. OH on a local woodland clocked 10 singing Chiffchaff and 135 Redwing heading back homewards.
 
Osprey season officially up and running as the Manton bay pair blue 33 and Maya both arrived today at 7.13 and 12.52, bit of a shock for the other female (Blue 25) who arrived on Friday who was sitting on the nest when Maya arrived back. 15 Buzzard north over garden this pm in small groups, a Tree Pipit and the real surprise a flock of trilling Waxwings heading homewards no doubt

They're so common round here that we always see 2-3 when we walk the dog, and they circle round over our garden as well. Lovely flyers. We used to get lots of buzzards but the kites seem to have taken over.

We are very pleased to share the news that Mrs G landed on the Glaslyn nest at 10:36 this morning, March 21st. She is officially the first Welsh osprey to return to her nest, and for a record 17th breeding season. Incredible. Just what we needed to lift our spirits. Welcome home, Mrs G

I am not sure which excited OH most Mrs G back or the fact she found some bananas today. She was at work and not quite sure she needed a phone to yell at me Mrs G is back. :-)08 :-)08 :-)08 :-)08

Black 80 (2006) returned to Threave castle this morning he is the son of the very first Glaslyn birds. Orange 11 and an unringed female.
30 Ospreys were recorded moving across Northern France yesterday
 
Few more Ospreys safely home, yesterday Black 80 (Mrs G son) who arrived a few days ago welcomed his regular partner Blue KC back at Threave, today Foulshaw Moss, Tweed Valley and Kielder all welcomed birds back.
Skywatch over field produced 30 Buzzard moving North, in kettles of 3-4 and one group of 7. Stunning male Hen Harrier and beautiful red Kite that came down low to follow the tractor before heading North
 
Telyn the Dyfi female arrived safely yesterday at 18.57.
Two more of Mrs G's children arrived back in Scotland also in the last couple of days. Come on Aran
