Hello all

My Orpingtons all (with the exception of one) go to roost a good hour or so before my Welsummers and Pekins. The other day they were all in at 6pm, they all came out again as soon as they heard me shaking some food around for themthen stayed out a while longer before going back in again. Is this an Orpington thing? Are they just getting on a bit and need their sleep? Or have I just got some lazy birds?

The others stay out until after 9pm every night just now.

By the way, it's true what they say about them going broody easily!

lol my lavender pekins are always my first birds to bed every day, my barbu d'uccles like to stay up late and party

Two of my Pekins are tucked up by 8pm, the other waits until they're nodding on their perch then nips back out and up to the back door asking for corn :) She usually gets some just for being so cheeky too.

Hi,

Like Dawn - my Pekins have a strict order, youngest of the Pekins first, followed by the top hen, whilst Lavender Pekin stands on the ramp checking all is well. All starts at 8.30ish and tucked up by 9. The d'uccle and sablepoot, (although the youngest of the lot), are little monkeys & go to bed a good hour later- but they are in a separate house STILL.

I wonder if its all to do with eyesight..... the latter two seem to spot the treats first before the others get a look in.

It must just be one of those odd chicken things they do that has no logic to it :?

They make even less sense than women do

I'm in for it now ;)

Oh, alright, as no-one else has attacked him I suppose I should on behalf of the female kind (feathered and other). There is logic in everything women do, we may not know what it is and men are not yet evolved enough to understand, but it's there. Then there's chickens ............ :)

I thought I got off quite lightly there!

And here was me hiding behind the settee waiting for an onslaught of abuse :)
