I need some advice quiclky!! This morning outside my bathroom window I heard this loud unmistakable peeping of a little chick. Well we have a hen and her chicks in our coop so I thought it was a lost baby. So my kids went out and caught baby and all of the hens chicks were accounted for. Well we have another hen that has been laying eggs all over the place and i guess some the mama hen has been sitting on. well we dont know if either is mom! should i just put baby in with the mama with the 3 week old chicks will she accept it? help!@

very doubtful she will accept it but you could try putting it in overnight while mamais sleeping but maake sure your there in the morning to check she has\accepted it and also that the others aren't attacking it either

Hello, i don't think the hen (or the other chicks at 3 weeks) will take a day old - it needs to be in a brooder - with other chicks if at all possible- good luck :)
regards, David :)

I'd not put it in with the hen and older chicks. Highly unlikely she will take it, even if you do so overnight and pop it under her. Chances are you may have a dead or badly injured chick by daybreak even if you do so.

I'd do as Davidd suggested and pop it in a brooder/under a heatlamp. And if you have a hen sitting on eggs somewhere chances are more will hatch soon (if its newly hatched it does seem odd its just wandered away from the hen sitting on eggs though). If you can find that hen and pop the chick back under her it may have a chance but don't leave it with the hen until you are sure she isn't going to peck it or hurt it. I'd always stay nearby to ensure if anything goes wrong I could take the chick away.
