One egg cold

Hi can anyone please advise me how long a chick could survive if the egg has gone cold. Came home to find our broodie only had one egg under her and on hunting around I found the other egg had been pushed out and was cold. :(

It is amazing how long eggs can be cold for and hatch ok! You have nothing to loose by popping back under the hen . But , she may have pushed it out as she knows its no good.The same applies to newly hatched chicks ,if you find a seemingly dead chick off the nest , a bit of blowing and warming in hands then gently under a lamp can get them back. Hypothermia is surprisingly treatable both to chick and embryo. Hope it goes OK.Ros
 
Thanks Ros, I did put it back under her just in case. Will find out what happens on Sunday. We will be happy if just one hatches.

Just an update to tell you that both hatched :D
We had a quick look and one is cream and black(could be black mottled as Eddie was same colour as a chick) and the other is smaller and a very pale white,cream all over. Can't wait until they come out with her but we are now leaving them in peace.
