The Hubbie just rang me from a poultry sale that he "only went to have a look at" to say that he's bought a quartet of silver laced wyandottes as well as "a few pekin chicks"

Last time I let him go to the sale on his own he bought 2 welsummer cockerels (no idea why!) 6 maran cockerels ( ) 7 pekin chicks (of which 5 were clearly boys  ) 2 silkies (no idea what they are yet) and 4 maran chicks (2 boys, 2 girls)!

He's good at spotting healthy birds but sadly not so good at noticing full combs and wattles so I dread to think what he'll come home with  Will let you know in the morning when I have a look

A Quintet of Silver Laced Wyandotte Cockerels??

Don't even joke Tim!

blimey.... and you let him go alone again?!
 Gets him out of my hair for a while! ;) Just a good job that we keep the chickens on his parent's farm- he can do the nagging for more runs

Looking forward to hearing what hes brought back for you

Okay here's the damage...

19!!! tiny pekin chicks A bedraggled mixture of black, lav, white, buff - less than a week old at a guess. He felt sorry for them out in the terrible weather we had last night and bought them home to be pampered (I think I would have bid on them too poor little things ) I was expecting a few to be dead this morning due to their tough day- with no food or water  But they are all looking really good this morning :D Keeping them well away from my own hatched chicks though in case any nasties show up.

3 older pekins - he says 2 girls and a boy - I say 1 girl, 2 boys- we'll wait and see who's right!

3 LF silver laced wyandotte girls and one boy. Apparantly it is just the one boy but I haven't seen them yet so I'll reserve judgement on that one! - in fairness he's liked the look of the silver laced dottes for a long time :) Blue laced are on my wish list :D

So it looks like he didn't do too badly after all- they all look healthy enough and hopefully there are a lot less cockerels than last time!

He's getting better then ;)

Great idea keeping them apart from your others. I've seen people wipe out all there chooks with disease after buying at auction.

2 weeks should be long enough to get a good idea if there's anything serious lurking.
