Newly hatched chick

Hi all,

I have just hatched my fisrt ever chick today! seems OK so far...

Daft question, how quickly should the chick be able to support it's own weight on it's legs? .... hours, days?

It varies, usually they are up and mobile by the time they have fluffed up. It is very tiring work getting out of the shell so I normally leave them around 8 hours post hatching to dry and gain their feet in the incubator, slow and late hatchers take a bit longer to get up and running in my experience 17
