Hi there

We have 14 Quails that are between 1-3 days old. This is the first time we have kept/ hatched Quails and are unsure when they are old enough to go outside.Obviously with Chickens it is when they are feathered up, do the same rules apply?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Craig & Emma.

yes, they'll feather up quickly... quail are sexually mature at 5-6 weeks, so that just shows you how quickly they'll grow!!

We keep them on full heat for around a week (depending on the time of year/room & outside temperature, then reduce it fairly quickly to being indoors but off heat.
this gives them the security being indoors but adjusting to lower temps.

The thing to be sure of is that wherever you are moving them out to has small enough wire / bars to keep them in safely. As you'll have seen, baby quail are tiny & lively so the smallest gap could see them nipping out to the big wide world!

good luck with them, they are great little birds. Just keep your wits about you when you open the doors... :)

Cheers for that info, its much appreciated. We currently now have about 15 and they are changing so much so quick. Still got about another 15 eggs in the Incubator, most of them have just started to dance about so we may be getting a few mpre mates, lol.

Thanks again and without doubt i will be posting another question for more help, ha ha.

Cheers

Craig
