Hello from Somerset,Ihave kept poultry for 25 years and did quite a bit of showing back then ,however 10 yrs ago my flock of polled dorset sheep became my priority, selling at farmers markets most weekends .I have kept Araucanas all this time and now have a few wheaten Marans and a trio of gold Brahma s. I lost 2 fowl this weekend when my neighbours dog went wandering and killed my only lavender cock .I bought a lovely pair of Saxonys last spring and I hatched 2 female rouens from some eggs I bought on ebay .I also breed sport ponies so never a dull moment here !

Hi Portmead,
and a big welcome to the forum.will be good to share your valuable experience in posts etc.Really sorry to hear that a neighbours dog killed some of your birds,it is so tragic and un-necesary when a dog isn't controlled properly and causes terror and death to livestock. As an owner of dogs and chooks, I would be very upset if my dogs chased/killed other peoples hens/sheep etc, equally,I would be very upset as well as cross if someone elses pet chased and attacked mine.

Hi portmead.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have a good collection of birds amongst other things. I think Saxony ducks are some of the most attractive ducks. I saw a number of them at the Hannover poultry show a few weeks back and wish I could fit them in here!

Do you sell any eggs at farmers markets? I have found blue / green eggs to be very popular with friends even though there is no difference to the end product!

I look forward to meeting you in the forums.

Tim

Thanks for your welcome I do try to sell eggs at farmers markets the marans being the most popular they make everyone elses look so pale but I do get some resistance to the blue eggs as folks wonder what the insides are like !
