Hi everyone,
First night on here tonight and thought i would introduce myself. My name is Kim and i have been wanting to keep chickens for quite some time now. Now that we are living back on Arran we have decided to go for it!! :D Our coop and small run arrived at the house on Wednesday afternoon, so hubby and i spent the rest of the afternoon building it in the house with the wind being so strong, had our chickens delivered yesterday afternoon and welcomed them all to there new home!!! :D
The breed names of the four girls that we decided on were a Rhode Rock (Ms Clutterbuck), a Blue Ranger (Beryl), a Sussex Ranger (Millie) and a Speckeldy (Gladys). They are awesome and i am so excited about starting, but also a bit weary as i have never kept chooks before. Been reading as much as poss on the web and got a couple of books from the library, so doing my best
Sorry about the novel for my intro,
Talk to you all soon hopefully Kim

:D Thanks David, i have been pretty busy already and put up a couple of posts asking for advice, just having a nosey through the other folks posts at the mo.

Great forum and really really helpful advice to be had :)

Hi Kim,
a warm welcome to the best poultry site and forum on the web :D .I think we are all wary to start with, but, chickens are lovely and very rewarding.Your girls sound great, maybe you could post some pics in the photo bit.

Hi Lydia thanks for your welcome :) Have been quite quiet the last couple of days trying to get pics sorted and getting them on here. Emailed David again and asked for some help with it, managed to get them onto photobucket and re-size them but not entirely sure what to do next

I used to be great with stuff like this but since having my daughter seven years ago my brain seems to have turned to mince :?

Will keep trying tomorrow night, but just taking it easy tonight and having a browse around instead.

Thanks again Kim

Hi Kim,
you've also discovered the awfull truth that having children means you lose your brain, thought process, everything. When I had my son I was told/warned it was temporary,17yrs later it's not better :? .
I used to post pics, but need to download another thingy to re-size my pics,I used to use microsoft something or other, but,if I want to use it now I have to buy it,there is bound to be a free one that is easy to use.
I don't know how to post pics from photobucket on here,I can only post pics if they are correct size from my pc.

Hi Kim, I use photobucket to resize too but I don't know how to upload from there so what I do is when I have resized and I have the resized pic on my screen I just right click on it then use the command 'save as' then it will let you rename it and it will then go straight onto your puter, then you can upload from your machine. :D hope this helps x

Hi Lydia,
 So what you are saying is there is no hope left for me then?! Managed to get it sorted through resizing the photos on photobucket. Quite easy now i know how. If you put the mouse over the pic and choose the reseize thingy and you type in the size you want, it gives you the option to save it and then do the same again with the mouse and click on share this time. It'll will bring up a new box and you have the option toget link code.., choose that and then look down the list and there is one that says IMG for bulletin boards and forums so i just left clicked the mouse over the code, then right clicked and copied then went onto here and pasted it onto one of my posts and HEY PRESTO IT WORKED!!!

Probably is an easier way but this works for me now!!!YYYEEEHHHHAAAA

oh bless what lovely looking birds. :D Congratulations on your new hobby,VERY addictive ;)

Well and truely addicted already! But loving every second. Best bit is watching them chase me when they see me walking to put their food out! Had never seen a chicken run before we had them

Haha I loved my last lot so much but we had to give them away due to moving house. I've now got my new batch of chicks and ducks and I can't wait til there in the garden. The fencing went up today! YAY! If you have porridge for brekkie or ready brek give the girls some every now and then, they'll be your bestest friend ever! :D

Cooked or just the oats? Have heard dried meal worms are a favourite treat for them?

yeah cooked but cooled down. YES mealworms lol they go crazy for them, Ooo and if I did too much spaghetti they used to get that too oh how they loved it! :D you'll have so much fun. :)

Thanks, thats ashame i cooked too much spag tonight but never even thought of giving it to the girls! It was co-ops finest spaghetti aswell, would have been a real treat for them. :D
