Hi just joined up. :-)99 'Adopted' my first 4 chickens 4 days ago and I love them. Annie is a Sussex, Violet is a Bluebell, Eva is a Speckledy & Martha is a Black Rock. Will be adding a Cream Legbar & a Salmon Faverolle at the begining of August as they are a bit too young yet and would have to be separated from the rest of the girls. They are going to be called Eliza & Lottie. Can't wait to complete my new 'family'.

Thank you, Chuckchuck. I see you joined up the day before me - it's great to know that there are people we can turn to for help if we need it isn't it?

Hi all, My chickens make me laugh. I love it when they run, they have no grace at all! Yesterday I was crouching down with them feeding out of my hand when 2 of them decided to start pulling on my hair. Then Annie (Sussex) realised she could get a better hold on it if she jumped on my back! This is the 1st time they have messed with my hair (it is longish) maybe it was the hairspray the attracted them. They are also fascinated with my wedding ring and the metal studs on jeans - must be because they are shiney. What nutters! ;)

Very jealous that your hens are coming up to you already! Mine are still very timid but each day they are getting better - they were sunbathing yesterday with me standing a couple of feet away - usually they would want to get as far away as possible! :D

my hens bend down to let me stroke them ;) some of the new ones are abit scared,, but it is good to handle them so you can check them over lice etc xx

I think it's just a matter of spending time with them - I think that they seem to like company .I talk to them a lot to get them used to my voice.Although it doesn't help when my dogs decide to bark at them! It doesn't seem to bother them too much though. Give mine a handfull of corn or a lettuce leaf and they're anybody's. Little hussies! One of them Eva (speckledy) is a bit timid still - she'll take a lettuce leaf from me, but is the only one who hasn't taken corn from my hand or let me stroke her. I'll persist and win her heart yet !

Thank you Rebelodicus & foxy for your welcome. :)

Help I don't seem to be able to attach any photos -it tells me that my file is too big. Maybe its because I can only access the internet through a dongle as I don't have a land line. Have tried several times but no luck. :-)06

Thank you Rebelodicus for your help. I will have a go at this today. :)

Yeah, I don't have chickens (though I want some) I have two ducks, a male mallard called Bruno and a female khaki campbell named Esmay. Bruno is ridiculously tame, he was wild though some idiot bricked him and he now has neurological problems and can't be returned to the wild I got him a week and a few days ago and cuz I have been tending to his wound and had to hand feed him for a few days he now is really really tame :D and is now on the mend, I got Esmay today, she hasn't made Bruno pick up :) she is terrified of me. But she will get there I'm sure, cuz Bruno is giving her more confidence around me.

Hi Nymnymsuxx, Poor Bruno. I don't understand how anyone can do something like that to another animal. It's beyond me, but at least he now has some who cares about him to make sure that he his kept well and happy. Good for you! :-)08
