Hi All

We are soon to be taking on our first adventure in the chicken world but just a bit unsure on what Hens to get. We have four girls so want small but friendly and pretty birds (if poss). We would love to get a decent amount of eggs but its not a massive priority, they will be more like pets.

Could anyone please advise us on what type of birds would suit us best, and if so do you know of any breeders in the north east of england.

Any advice/ surgestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Craig

hello and welcome

have a look on the breed section of the main Poultrykeepers site - there are pictures & descriptions of chickens, so you decide what you like the look of!

Hi and welcome - you shouldn't realy listen to us - we are all biased - we love the breeds we keep because they suit us .. have a look around and then ask us what we think.. how much land do you have, bantams, LF, layers, pretty, - the list could be very long

iv got a mix from the big orpington to fancy polish to tiny dutch
the orpington is a large chicken comes in a fue colours lay bigish eggs not loads and quite happy to be hugged by the kids. the dutch lays tiny eggs quit happy to sit on your shoulder while you garden bu can fly over every thing so escape. polish and silkies are sweet but go broody at drop of a hat
hybreds like bluebell sussex ambers are good egg layers and not broody as a rule
like dorinda says we all have our fav breeds
