Hello, I got my first two hens yesterday morning. Spent most of the day just sitting there watching them. I had not realised how beautifully marked the feathers are. Better than the telly for entertainment.
Rushed out this morning to give fresh water and was over the moon to collect my first egg!! Boiled egg with toast for breakfast then out again to clean off the dropping board only to find another egg. Brilliant.
Love the site and I am finding the information very useful.
Best wishes
Evelyn

Hello from another newbie from Lincolnshire :-)99 What sort of hens have you got?

Hello pigsandpoultry, Not really sure what sort they are. I only have two. One is a rich soft brown all over, the other is a darker redish brown but creamy white nearer the body so she looks spotty. I have got them as productive pets but am already thinking of a bigger hen house and getting more hens.
Do you have special breeds? What do you keep pigs for, pets, showing or table?

HI and welcome to the forum - Congratulations on getting your first hens (and eggs!) :D

Hi, i'm just starting out on breeding but am focusing on 'eggciting'! egg layers. Atm i have a mixture of hybrids a welsummer and a leghorn and a dozen chicks that are marans and marans x legbars. Once i'm established i am hoping to have Marans, legbars, exchequer leghorns, Lincolnshire Buffs and hybrid combinations of these to produce a mixture of eggs and to breed from.

The pigs, at the moment we just raise for meat but we are hoping once we are more experienced to breed. The showing world doesn't really appeal to me atm but i probably ought to get involved at some point if i'm planning to breed.

I like the sound of your spotty hen :)
