Newbee - Laying question

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the great welcome to the forum.

I hatched some eggs last June/July (can't remember off the top of my head) We got one cream leg bar hen who started to lay a month or so ago with lovely blue eggs. I was getting one every couple of days from her untill last week and we have had over a week without a blue egg.

Is this normal?

As long as she looks healthy and is behaving normally I wouldn't worry at all. Originally hens would have laid a clutch of eggs and then hatched them out- the broodiness has largely been bred out but many chickens will have an interupted laying season and lay quite regularly, then have a break- she should start laying eggs again soon.

She looks great and a little rounder than the older girls who are all ex free range girls but maybe that is how they look as i haven't had cream leg bars before. I hope she starts laying soon and the cockerel starts taking interest in her as I would like to hatch some of her eggs out in my new incubator that I hopefully will be buying soon.
