Hello everyone, I am new to chicken keeping, having got 6 hybrid girls in March 2010. I had been wanting chickens for a couple of years. . . Why did I wait so long! In June one of my black rocks went broody and kept nicking all the eggs to sit on. I bought her some fertilised eggs and made space under the hen house to accomodate her. On July 1st, 6 chicks hatched, it was amazing! Watching Mrs Broody teach them everything was fantastic and they were so friendly, however, 5 were cockerels. The man I got the eggs from took the cockerels when they were 9 weeks and gave me an aracuana to go with the exchequer leghorn chicks I had.
My chickens are very dear to me. I also have 4 dogs, pond and tropical fish, alas no more cats as the last 2 got run over, no more guinea pigs , hamsters or rabbits as my kids have grown up! I would recomend chcken keeping, it's relaxing, they are amusing and always hungry!

Welcome to the forum chickadoodle- Sounds as though you've had a busy year. I find sitting with my chickens really relaxing too- great way to unwind after work :D

Hello Chickadoodle,

Welcome to the forum - thanks for the introduction, it sounds like you're having lots of fun with your girls.

You'll find ducks are lots of fun too :D I didn't think I would end up with ducks but now I have 30 (and a little under 30 chickens).

I'm also in Bedfordshire, in between Bedford and MK.

See you in the forums.

Tim
