Hi Everyone,
I just thought i would show you my new coop, The paperwork says it is good for 13 medium Chickens. It has 3 nest boxes and 2 perches and is very easy to assemble and cost £189.00. The ducks use it as well as 3 chickens. And my warren did not even go off lay for one day. The 3 chicks i got a few weeks ago are blooming nicely, 2 of them definetly look silkie but the third looks like a true mix with silkie tail and head and normal wings and feathers, they are out in the pen everyday, playing tag with the odd worm i give them.
It was so funny the other day it even made my wife laugh (and thats like trying it to get water to flow uphill) my warren came into the utility room were my 4 cats were all laying about, they saw ginger and all shot to the other end of the room and all sat together while ginger drank the water and ate the cat biscuits. Great 1 hen & 4 chickens.

Yesterday something strange happened, i was having breakfast outside watching the fun, the ducks were in the pool and the chickens where running around, when suddenly the whole lot of them stopped what they were doing, and all looked up into the sky and all in the same direction. i looked up could see nothing and heard nothing. Then as suddenly as they stopped they carried on with what they where doing before, very strange. Has anyone else ever seen this kind of behaviour.
Hope everyone else is doing good.
Pete

Hi Pete,
My dotte bantams do this sometimes. It is usually when they see a red kite or other large bird in the sky long before I do. Having said that they also see any threat at ground level long before I do as well! :o

Very nice cop you have.Yes the chickens are very sensitive to anythink that may put them in danger. They have a special sound for this and then all look in direction the chicken who made this noise looking out.Thats they think,so nothing strange about this.i,m realy surprised you had not spot this earlier, they usually do that evey day few times. :-)17

Looks like a bargain buy that coop.

Chickens eyesight is far better than mine. Ours spot stuff in the sky regularly. Each flocks's cockerel makes the same noise and all (almost, there's always a few who don't notice) the hens run for cover.

Mine all stop and look skyward if they see a plane, never mind a bird of prey!!!

We have a family of buzzards across the back field, and their hunting causes my hens to huddle, gaze skyward, and chuckle/purr loudly. Although the noise grr heard when there was a hot air balloon was OUTSTANDING!

In the Spring, when I had two chicks in a grass run with netting over the top, they would freeze for up to 10 minutes every time they heard the next-door blackbird giving his alarm call. It was just as if the film had got stuck, not a feather moved until the alarm stopped.

my girls do this sometimes and its pretty funny to watch but never anything you could catch on camera though which is a shame .

p.s i adore your coop where did you get it :-)17
