Cheers

Hi MattyMooney, and welcome to the Forum. What a lovely username!
The first big decision a new keeper faces is whether to get hybrid laying breeds, which will come vaccinated against many chicken diseases and will lay very heavily for 2-3 years and not go broody, - or to go for purebreds, which are very pretty and may live longer than hybrids, but will tend to go broody and probably not lay nearly so well, being bred more for appearance in many cases. It's very much a case of personal preference, combined with how important eggs are to you. and what's available within a reasonable travelling distance, as they don't sell chickens by post on Amazon yet! When you have a clearer idea, maybe post in the Chickens for Sale and Wanted section, maybe some of our members could help you.
There are lots of pics of different chickens online, such as: poultrykeeper chicken breeds or just go to Google and click on the Images button.
And of course, browse the Pictures of Chickens section on here, (subforum of the Chickens section.) http://poultrykeeperforum.com/viewforum.php?f=27
Also there are many books on chickens, including the excellent Popular Poultry Breeds by David Scrivener, if looking for purebreds. Try your local Public Library and reserve books from them from other branches for 50p. And have a look at the Poultrykeeper website, if you haven't already found it - the link is at the bottom of the page, below. This has a wealth of information about all things chicken.

Hi MattyMooney.
I've just posted some pics of my girls; one (black) Araucana who, in her youth, laid olive green eggs, & three ex-batts, probably ISA Warrens (though people more expert than me might tell us otherwise).
I'd recommend taking in some ex-commercial hens from the British Hen Welfare Trust 0:-)

Good luck, whatever you choose.
