Hi, I've just joined the forum. I have 3 hens and 2 pekin bantams. Hens and bantams are in separate runs. I bought 6 Welsummer hatching eggs and my broody hen successfully hatched 3 of these. She and her chicks are in a separate run. The chicks are now three weeks old and thriving. And I've really enjoyed my first hatching. I have one hen, and possibly two cockerels (definitely one) I can't keep the cockerels long term but I'm fairly confident that I can find new homes for them locally.
My problem is what should I do with the young hen chick once Mum wants to return to the pen with the two large hens. Could I put the 3 chicks, which would then be about 6 weeks old, with my bantams (who are fairly good tempered and docile) until it's time for the cockerels to be rehomed and then leave the young hen with the bantams until she's old enough to join the large hens later in the year. I thought I'd then purchase another 3 POL and introduce them all together. Would this work?
