I picked up the week old pekin bantams last week.... The lady that I got them from had them on wood shavings, however, my farmer neighbour said I should just keep them on newspaper so that it was easier to change. I have therefore been keeping them on newspaper (in their box with heat lamp) and changing it about twice a day so that food/poo etc doesn't build up on their feet. The thing I am worreid about is that it doesn't seem very comfortable or cosy for them... Would it be better to put them back on wood shavings (the dust extracted ones)? If I did that, should I still clean them out daily?

Hi, i would put them on shavings- they can scratch around in it and it's not a slippery as paper- you only need to clean them out once every few days- just make sure you take the wet shavings out everyday.
regards, David :)

Well, that was obviously the right thing to do - wood shavings now down and 10 very happy little chick chicks! All going wild and scratching around like crazy!!

i used hemcore for my chicks, really nice smelling as has citronella in it :)
