Good evening.

I am new to this site and looking after chickens.
I fell in love with some Silkies when we were out and about so I decided to get a couple.
We were told that we had a Blue Cock and Hen. While I hope this is correct I am having some doubts.

I have created a little site so you guys can take a look at them.
http://jonraney.webspace.virginmedia.com/Chickens/Index.html

The only reason I have doubts is that while most of the time they are great friends, they do have some fights, and I have seen a cut on Masala's head. He seems to get frustrated when Tikka flys up on top of the crate or ramp.

He seems completly unable to fly or jump any higher than a few inches.

Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon, and welcome to the world of chicken keeping :D

Silkies are notoriously difficult to sex but I'd agree that Masala is a boy (Don't take that as a definite though :) )

Tikka looks more like a silkie cross to me- I'd say she is a girl, but she doesn't have quite the right feathering for a silkie- she is very lovely though :-)07

The silkie feathering (like Masala has) can mean that birds can't fly as well so this might explain Masala's behaviour a little!

Hello, and welcome to the forum. I am the worst person at sexing chickens, I have a much loved but totally accidental rooster, but Tikka is so pretty I can't imagine she'd be anything other than a girl.

I'm sorry I can't help you with your query, but I just wanted to say what great names for your chickens! :)

The top one I think a boy. The other girl, but would say silkie cross. Both lovely birds though, I love blues :D

Thanks everyone.

She does have 5 toes, so she must have some Silkie in her.

I hate days like today, but even though it is raining they want to go outside :-)07

Someone said to me that Silkies will not go out if its raining, but mine just don' care but they do look a little silly :D

They are a cute pair----good choice! I agree with PJ and NCOTB ---Silkie boy (a nice one) and a silkie cross girl.Bet she will spend at least 1/2 of next year being an excellent mum! Ros
