my New Hampshire Red Bantams

What a lovely rich red colour they are, JR, lovely birds. Is that quite a rare breed? I've not seen any like that before. Do you know how old they are? That would help people to see whether they think boys or girls.

hi marigold they are quite rare, i think they are POL, one of them layed its first egg on Boxing day 2011!!!!

Well yes the top photo shows a rich dark red, and from your photo looks very much like a pullet to me.

A side view would help, at that age the difference between sexes should be more distinctive, and I would expect much larger comb and wattles on a cockerel, plus thicker legs and a leaner body.

Well, that's her settled then! Which one of the birds in the pics do you know has laid an egg?

Yes that was the one foxy thought was a pullet, didn't she? Can you get a bit clearer pic of the other one, do you think? But if one of them laid an egg oover a month ago, she would have been about 6 months old then. So, if they are both about the same age, and the other one hasn't crowed yet, I'd guess you've got two girls there.

I actually thought they were both pullets? But don't take that as red, could be wildly wrong, often am! :D
